-
- There are two ways to create easy, flawless labels*; one with,
- and one without performing a query. For both techniques you will
- need to run your Paradox Custom Configuration and
- WordPerfect Setup programs.
-
- Within Paradox
-
- Make sure your Working Directory is where the paradox system
- files are located. From the menu pick {Scripts} {Play} {Custom}.
- Once inside the Custom Configuration Program, select from the
- menu {Ascii} {FieldsDelimited} {AllFields} {Return} {Do-It!}. By
- default Paradox will only put delimiters around alphanumeric
- fields, here you are setting Paradox to put delimiters around all
- fields.
-
- Technique #1: From the main menu pick {Tools}
- {ExportImport} {Export} {Ascii} {Delimited}, and enter
- the name of the table that contains the information you
- want to use for your labels. Give this new file a name
- and exit Paradox.
-
- Technique #2: Using a query form, create an Answer table
- that has its fields in the same order as you want them to
- appear in the labels. There should be no extra fields,
- only the ones you want to use. When your answer table
- appears on the screen, push {F10} to call up the menu
- system. Pick {Tools} {ExportImport} {Export} {Ascii}
- {Delimited}, and enter Answer. Give this new file a name
- (no need to call it Answer) and exit Paradox.
-
- Within WordPerfect
-
- For either technique, start WordPerfect and enter the Setup menu
- {Shift-F1}. Press {4}-Initial Settings, {1}-Merge. Next, press
- {1}-Field Delimiters and enter {"} for Begin and {",} for End.
- Press {2}-Record Delimiters, {down arrow} and {"Ctrl-M} {down
- arrow} for end; do not forget the quote ". Record Delimiters
- Begin should be blank and Record Delimiters End should read
- {"[CR]}. The [CR] stands for carriage return; the down arrows
- were to move off the entry field. Exit {F7}, to return to the
- main editing screen.

-
- If you have not already created your label definition,
- WordPerfect makes it simple for you with a macro they provide
- which can be installed with the keyboard and macro files,
- "labels.wpm". If you are using ``Avery'' labels, press {Alt-
- F10}-Macro and type in {labels}. Pick the letter corresponding
- to the labels you are using. Don't select this as your current
- paper definition yet. Format {3}-Document {2}-Initial Codes then
- {Shift-F8}-Format again, {2}-Page {7}-Paper Size/Type and
- highlight and select the label definition that matches the labels
- you want to use, then return to the main editing screen by
- pressing {F7}-Exit three times. Place the merge codes by
- pressing {Shift-F9}-Merge Codes {1}-Field and {X} where "X" is
- the number of the field.
-
- Once the code has been placed you can go directly into the code
- from the editing screen and change the field number, which you
- may need to do if you have used technique #1. You can use commas
- and spaces as needed with your merge codes. Save your primary
- merge file.
-
- To perform the merge, press {Ctrl-F9}-Merge/Sort, {1}-Merge, and
- name your primary file. When WordPerfect prompts you for the
- secondary file, the very next key you need to press is {Ctrl-
- F5}-Text In/Out, and type in the name of the Ascii delimited file
- you created with Paradox.
-
- Once you have configured Paradox and WordPerfect this will not
- need to be done again. If you use Technique #2 you will probably
- NOT have to change your WordPerfect primary merge file. From
- here on in there is very little you need to do to create easy,
- flawless labels.
-
- * Keep in mind the Mail Merge feature of WordPerfect is a very
- useful tool in other areas as well. With Paradox you can
- take the chore out of setting up a secondary merge file.
